As announced this morning, Verismo — Anna Netrebko’s new solo album for Deutsche Grammophon — has been nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of “Best Classical Solo Vocal Album.”

Hailed as “One of the most anticipated opera albums of the year” by the Associated Press, Verismo features Anna in her newfound repertoire and artistic range, singing heroines from Tosca, Turandot, Andrea Chénier, Manon Lescaut, and more. She is joined by her husband, Yusif Eyvazov, for Turandot’s towering “In questa reggia” and the complete fourth act of Manon Lescaut. Antonio Pappano conducts the recording, which also features the orchestra and chorus of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.

Verismo, reveals [Netrebko] is more than just a star; her performances of arias and scenes from Italian opera highlight an artistry that is both subtle and thrilling,” wrote The Observer, which also compared her performance to “an expert warrior wielding a sword. It’s hard to imagine this killer aria sung more beautifully.”

The AP added, that Verismo “justifies the excitement… Besides the pure vocal pleasure it brings, this album serves as a landmark in the remarkable growth of a singer who began more than two decades ago as a light lyric soprano, moved into bel canto, then Verdi and Puccini and recently even ventured into Wagner.”

The 59th annual Grammy Awards take place Sunday, February 12 and will be broadcast on CBS.

Last month, Verismo won the 2016 Diapason d’Or de l’Année in the Vocal Recital category. It also entered the Pop charts in Austria (No. 3), Germany (No. 11), and Switzerland (No. 16), and France (No. 50) while occupying the No. 1 spot on the Classical charts in Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and the United States. In the United States it charted No. 3 in Classical Overall and No. 11 in Heatseekers.
