House Role Debut of Adriana Lecouvreur at Wiener Staatsoper
Netrebko’s beauty and charisma were expected assets in an opera that requires a decorative heroine, but the soprano’s formidable dramatic intelligence gave shape and substance to Adriana’s every scene, with her elegant performance capped by a show-stopping “Poveri fiori.”
On the heels of a month-long international concert tour, Anna Netrebko returned to her first main stage opera of the season in Adriana Lecouvreur at Wiener Staatsoper. Having only debuted the role in June at the Mariinsky’s Stars of the White Nights Festival, this was the soprano’s inaugural performance in Vienna.
