Anna Netrebko triumps in role debut as Tchaikovksy’s Lise
To great acclaim, Anna Netrebko debuted the iconic role of Lise in Tchaikovksy’s The Queen of Spades on 21 June at the Wiener Staatsoper. Kurier wrote, “With her dark-timbered soprano, she expresses the loneliness and lostness of her character with a truthfulness that is deeply moving…Netrebko sings [Lisa] beautifully, bringing out the colours of her voice, and is rightly applauded at length for her performance.” Die Presse added, “Anna’s trump card also beats ‘The Queen of Spades’…An evening with Anna Netrebko on stage promises exciting musical theatre. The expressiveness of this singer-actress is complete.” The final performances take place on 27 and 30 June.
